Summer Support for Orange County Teens
When the school year ends, a lot of built-in support ends with it — counselors, daily routine, friends close by. For some teens the slower pace is a relief. For others, it’s when small changes start to show up, and they’re easy to miss once everyone’s schedule is off.
If something feels different with your teen lately, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Help is close to home.
Trust your instincts — paying attention isn’t overreacting
Without the structure of school, families often start to notice changes like:
- Sleeping a lot more, or a lot less than usual — summer schedules shift, but big swings can be worth noticing
- Pulling away from friends, family, or activities — more time alone, less interest in being included
- Losing interest in things they used to enjoy — hobbies, sports, or music that suddenly sit untouched
- Bigger shifts in mood, energy, or appetite — changes that feel larger or last longer than typical teen ups and downs
Reaching out to understand what’s going on is one of the most caring things a parent can do — and a free, confidential assessment is a simple place to start.
Summer outpatient programs, built around real life
Aliso Ridge Behavioral Health offers two summer outpatient programs for adolescents ages 12–17. Teens receive structured support during the day and return home afterward — staying engaged with peers and daily routines, without hospitalization.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) — the more structured option. Teens attend Monday through Friday, taking part in four therapy groups a day with summer academic enrichment built in. Food is provided.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) — more flexible, running 3 days per week, with more structure and support than weekly visits. Therapy groups and counseling are paired with summer educational support to keep teens prepared for the year ahead.
Both programs focus on coping skills, self-confidence, healthy communication, and resilience, alongside therapeutic arts and recreational activities. Not sure which fits? A free assessment by a licensed intake clinician reviews your teen’s needs and recommends the right level of care — with no charge and no obligation.
