At Aliso Ridge Behavioral Health (ARBH), our core belief is to provide compassionate and inclusive care for every individual who seeks our support. Today, we are proud to share an important step in furthering our commitment to health equity: the launch of our Transgender Sensitivity Committee.
To introduce this vital initiative and the dedicated individuals behind it, we’ve created a short video:
A Message of Welcome and Understanding:
As you’ll see in the video, our Transgender Sensitivity Committee is composed of passionate healthcare professionals working collaboratively to cultivate a truly welcoming environment for our transgender and non-binary patients. Their mission is clear and deeply resonant with our values: to ensure that every transgender patient feels safe, respected, and genuinely understood throughout their care journey at ARBH. We are actively working to break down barriers to access and elevate the overall patient experience for this community.
Key Initiatives for Inclusive Care:
The video also highlights some of the specific ways the Transgender Sensitivity Committee is actively working to create a more affirming environment:
- Respecting Preferred Names and Pronouns: We are enhancing our documentation practices to ensure that patients can easily share their preferred names and pronouns. This crucial step guarantees that our staff respects and affirms their identities from the very first interaction.
- Empowering Families through Education: Recognizing the importance of family support, we are exploring opportunities to offer specialized Transgender/LGBTQIA+ Family Education Workshops. These workshops will aim to equip families with the knowledge and resources needed to provide informed and loving support.
- Affirming Identity through Integrated Therapies: We understand that personal expression can be an integral part of well-being. The committee is actively working to integrate makeup and cosmetics into treatment plans, where appropriate, to promote comfortability and affirm individual identities.
Meet Some of the Dedicated Team Members:
The Transgender Sensitivity Committee is driven by the dedication and expertise of individuals from across Aliso Ridge Behavioral Health. The video introduces:
- Trisha Nocon, LCSW, Director of Outpatient Services: Trisha’s leadership ensures that our outpatient programs are aligned with best practices for transgender care.
- Ivy Caasi, Patient Advocate: Ivy’s role as a patient advocate ensures that the voices and needs of transgender patients are central to our initiatives.
- Jasmin Casica, CTRS, Lead Adjunctive Therapist: Jasmin’s expertise in therapeutic recreation allows for the integration of affirming and person-centered approaches in our therapies.
- Ashley Carrillo, Scheduler/Nurse Executive Assistant: Ashley’s work in administration helps to ensure that our processes are respectful and considerate of transgender individuals.
Building a More Inclusive Future, Together:
At Aliso Ridge Behavioral Health, we firmly believe that every individual deserves mental health care that honors and respects their unique identity. The Transgender Sensitivity Committee is a testament to this belief, and we are incredibly proud of their dedication to fostering a more inclusive healthcare experience for everyone in our care.
We encourage you to watch the video to gain a deeper understanding of this important work. If you have any questions about our commitment to inclusive care or the services we offer, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to support you.
